'Is it possible to access BitLocker encrypted external hard drive on macOS, Linux, Android or Windows Mobile? I have an external hard drive that has been encrypted with Bitlocker on a previous work laptop. The problem is that I don't have the laptop anymore. I can't open Bitlocker encrypted external hard drive on the Mac now and not sure if there is a program or way around the password to unlock Bitlocker encrypted external hard drive on macOS?'

Tutorial to open Bitlocker drive on Mac
Following is the step-by-step tutorial to open Bitlocker drive on your Mac computer:
Step 1: Download M3 Bitlocker Loader for Mac on your Mac computer.
Step 2: Double click the installation package and follow the wizard to complete the installation.

Step 3: Launch M3 Bitlocker Loader for Mac from Applications folder or launchpad.
Step 4: Insert a Bitlocker drive (USB drive, flash drive, external hard drive) into your Mac computer.
M3 Bitlocker Loader for Mac requires a healthy Bitlocker drive. If your Bitlocker drive has been corrupted, please try Bitlocker data recovery software: M3 Data Recovery in Windows to recover lost data from corrupted Bitlocker drive.
Step 5: After inserting the Bitlocker drive, choose 'Ignore' if you receive message 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer with three buttons: Initialize, Ignore, Eject'.
Step 6: Select the Bitlocker drive and then click 'Open' icon to continue.
Step 7: Enter the password (or recovery key) and click 'Unlock' to unlock Bitlocker drive.
If it is Bitlocker encrypted OS drive, the recovery key is the only way to open Bitlocker drive on Mac.

Step 8: After mounting the Bitlocker drive on your Mac, you can read or write Bitlocker drive in Finder like a native drive.
The files will not be protected from the Bitlocker drive encryption once they leave from Bitlocker drive and the files will be automatically encrypted after copying from your Mac computer to the Bitlocker drive.
Step 9: After reading/writing Bitlocker drive, please click Lock button in M3 Bitlocker Loader to lock your Bitlocker drive.

Step 10: Click Eject button in M3 Bitlocker Loader to safely eject Bitlocker drive from your Mac computer, please don't directly unplug Bitlocker drive in case of data loss, it is very important.

When you format an internal or external storage device, you can encrypt and protect it with a password. If you encrypt an internal device, you must enter a password to access the device and its information. If you encrypt an external device, you must enter the password when you connect the device to your computer.
Here's how to download YouTube videos on Mac using Parallels Toolbox: Launch Parallels Toolbox, and click Download Video. If prompted to install the Safari extension, click Cancel. Important: If you encrypt an external storage device, you can’t connect it to an AirPort base station for Time Machine backups.
To encrypt and protect the device with a password using Disk Utility, you must erase the device first. If the device contains files you want to save, be sure to copy them to another storage device or volume.

- In the Disk Utility app on your Mac, choose View > Show All Devices.
- In the sidebar, select the storage device you want to encrypt.
- Click the Erase button in the toolbar.
- Enter a name for the volume.
- Click the Scheme pop-up menu, then choose GUID Partition Map.
- Click the Format pop-up menu, then choose an encrypted file system format.
- Enter and verify a password, then click Choose.To change the password later, select the volume in the sidebar, then choose File > Change Password.
- (Optional) If available, click Security Options, use the slider to choose how many times to write over the erased data, then click OK.Secure erase options are available only for some types of storage devices. If the Security Options button is not available, you can’t use Disk Utility to perform a secure erase on the storage device.Writing over the data three times meets the U.S. Department of Energy standard for securely erasing magnetic media. Writing over the data seven times meets the U.S. Department of Defense 5220-22-M standard.
- Click Erase, then click Done.
You can encrypt your data without erasing it by turning on FileVault in the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences (see Encrypt Mac data with FileVault).
